Biography

Kenneth P. Ross joined the predecessor of the Coleman Firm in 1979, following a two-year judicial clerkship for the Honorable Abraham Lincoln Marovitz, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Mr. Ross's practice is concentrated in complex commercial and business litigation, including professional malpractice, commercial torts, intellectual property, and labor and employment issues. Mr. Ross has represented the firm’s clients in numerous substantial federal and state appellate matters, and successfully argued the landmark multistate class action case, Miner v. Gillette Co., to the Illinois Supreme Court and briefed the case to the United States Supreme Court. In addition to his participation in all major cases of the Coleman Firm during the last 20 years, Mr. Ross has tried several major commercial and labor cases before judges and juries in federal and state courts.

Mr. Ross was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 16, 1951. He received his bachelor of arts in philosophy, cum laude, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1973, and his Juris Doctor from Northeastern University, Boston, Massachusetts in 1977. Between college and law school, he taught philosophy and English at Malcolm Shabazz High School, Madison, Wisconsin. He was admitted to the Illinois bar and the bar of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois including Trial Bar and U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit in 1977; the U.S. Supreme Court in 1982; the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit in 1983; the U.S. Tax Court in 1985; and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit in 1984; and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Second Circuit in 2004.

Mr. Ross is the author of “Constitutional Challenges to the Massachusetts Sexually Dangerous Persons Act,” 4 New England Law Review 253, 1978; “Multistate Consumer Class Action in Illinois,” 57 Chicago Kent Law Review 397, 1981, and several short stories. He served as an Adjunct Professor of Law, Chicago-Kent College of Law, 1979-1983; Instructor of Broadcast Law, Columbia College, 1995-1999. He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He served on the Board of Governors (and Emeritus); Chicago International Film Festival; President, Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation, Evanston, Illinois, 1999-2001, Executive Board 1997-2003; Civil Rights Committee of the Anti-Defamation League; Chicago Bar Association Judicial Evaluation Committee. Mr. Ross is listed in Who’s Who in American Law, 2d and 9th Editions, and Best Lawyers in America, 11th Edition.
